Film to DVD
We digitally transfer 8mm, Super 8mm & 16mm films to DVD and hard-drive storage. There are a few very important factors to consider when choosing a company to transfer your old films:
- Do they have the necessary equipment for a professional quality transfer? I use a specially modified projection system designed for super high quality transfers. Unlike typical projectors or other 1CCD telecine units that crop the image and shoot off the softer, base side of the film, my system uses broadcast quality 3CCD optics to image off the sharper, emulsion side of the film via a precision, jumbo 5 inch condenser lens. The sprocketless drive protects your films from the potential damage typically found on other sprocket driven projectors and transfer devices.

- Do they have a competent, uninterrupted technician that is tending to your transfer? I tend to your films through the entire transfer process, constantly monitoring focus, shutter speed and overall quality.
- Is the service facility local, or do they have to send your films out? Family Documentaries is a local company. Your films are not but at risk of loss or damage by placing them in the mail.
The CineMate series is designed for super high quality transfers of both regular 8mm and super 8mm film to video via one, easy to use unit. The CineMate is available in two NTSC models of 15fps and 20fps. It also is available in PAL models of 16.66fps and 20fps.
And unlike typical projectors or other 1CCD telecine units that crop the image and shoot off the softer, base side of the film, the CineMate-20 lets you use a high quality 3CCD camera or even an HD camera to image off the sharper, emulsion side of the film via a precision, jumbo 5 inch condenser lens. The enlarged gate allows access to 100% of the film frame and your resolution is limited only by the quality of the camera that you use. The original lamp has been replaced with a no heat, super-bright LED light source that should last darned near forever (but spares are available). The sprocketless drive protects your customers’ films from the potential damage typically found on other sprocket driven projectors and transfer devices.
